An Engaging Read and a Valuable Viewpoint
I really appreciate Nagata Kabi sharing her experience in the hospital and the candor with which she writes about her life. A couple years back I was in the hospital for a week after having my appendix removed and seeing the similarities between thoughts I had had while staying in the hospital and thoughts she expresses in the book was really cool. The experiences were quite different of course, but there’s something validating about seeing someone else express similar struggles and thoughts in that kind of situation.
Near the end, she discusses her struggle with whether to write about her experience and what makes this work different compared to her previous works (which I highly recommend as well, if you haven’t checked them out!). It’s a great look at how difficult evaluating our life experience from up close is when compared with looking back on our experiences from 10 years ago. There’s also encouragement to be had from how she finds goals and meaning as she’s reflecting on the experience and how to move forward.
Just okay
Not as good as her others, feels a little unformed and underwhelming. It felt like she didn’t really have a lot to say about what she went through.
