My Backyard Friends

Maria and her parents moved from the city to the suburbs. She expresses concern about losing her friends, but her mother assures her she will make new ones in time. In her new home, Maria begins to see critters in her backyard, including squirrels, rabbits, groundhogs, birds, and other small animals passing by. She begins to imagine these critters are her new friends until one day another young girl named Carmen appears with her dog. The two girls become best friends and decide to give the critters in Maria's backyard friendly names.
