And What A Time and Country
The author tries to be fair but is obviously still in turmoil over Nazi Germany and her parent's participation 70 years and more ago. She has access to family records, diaries and spoke to people who knew her parents first hand. She herself barely has any memory of her father. Bruhns is a professional journalist and a good writer with an incredible personal family history. Read it for the human history that has been mostly locked up in Germans for all these years. Read it and you will get a first hand view of the stew of poverty, inflation, naïveté, evil, bad luck and horror of the times.
