My Father's Dragon is a children's novel by Ruth Stiles Gannett about a young boy, Elmer Elevator, who runs away to Wild Island to rescue a baby Dragon. Both a Newbery Honor Book and an ALA Notable Book, [1] it is the first book of a trilogy whose other titles are Elmer and the Dragon and The Dragons of Blueland. All three were published in a 50-year anniversary edition as Three Tales of My Father's Dragon. It was made into an anime film titled, Elmer's Adventures: My Father's Dragon.

Great Book!
I read this book to my 6 year old daughter and 4 year old son. The chapters are a perfect length for a quick bedtime story each night. Here's my daughter's review...
This book should get five stars. It's the best book I've ever heard. My favorite part was the picture of the lion with braids tied in different colored bows. It was so funny. Laila, Age 6

I love that the author added so much detail.
My favorite part of the book was when Elmer
and the dragon saw the wild animals floating
down the river on the crockodiles backs.
I wonder what they will do next.I can't wait till
I read the next book of the series.
