The book was first published in 1930 and was written in the first year of Trotsky's exile in Turkey. Lev Davidovich Bronstein, better known as Leon Trotsky (1879-1940) was a Russian revolutionary, political theorist and politician. He was an influential figure in the early days of the Russian Revolution. Trotsky's ideas and writings have had a lasting influence on the left-wing political movements of the 20th century.
