This was my first introduction to Lyonne Riley's writing and it did not disappoint. I read My Minotaur Husband as an ARC and the writing, storyline, and world building was spectacular.
This is the first book in what I hope will be a long standing new series for Lyonne Riley. In this story we follow our shy, cinnamon roll hero, Theo, and our somewhat sheltered human, Celeste. I was a little hesitant that this would be more on the dystopian side with there only being about a hundred humans left in the world living in the New Eden preserve, but it wasn't at that way at all. It felt more like it's a monstrous world and humans just live in it.
The relationship building between our main characters felt like your first love all over again. The excitement that comes with your first meeting and then that special anticipation of getting picked up for your first date. I loved it. It was sweet, cozy, and really made me feel like I was experiencing it with Celeste.
Even though it was sweet and cozy with how Theo just wanted a human wife to spoil and take care of, he was a beast in bed. Theo is one of those sweet guys that turns into a dominant beast in bed solely focused on taking care of his human wife in the most toe curling way. The spicy scenes were descriptive and well thought out. The authors writing made it so you never forgot you were in bed with a minotaur with the way she described Theo. I'm a stickler for mentally mapping out where hands/limbs are and will notice any inconsistencies and I didn't notice any. The book had a natural progression of relationship building before the two characters got down and sweaty. Which made it feel even more believable, even though the book took place in a world where monsters of all kinds far outnumber humans.
This book is on the shorter side clocking in at around 38k words. It took me only a few hours (less than 4 total with multiple interruptions) to read. So it's perfect if you only have a few hours and want something that is going to scratch your monster loving itch.
While this is the first book of Lyonne Riley's books I've read, it won't be the last.
