INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER
The gripping and inspiring story of acclaimed actor Jeremy Renner’s near-fatal accident, and what he learned about inner strength, endurance and hope as he overcame insurmountable odds to recover, one breath at a time.
Two-time Oscar nominee Jeremy Renner was the second most googled person in 2023… and not for his impressive filmography. His searing portrayals on film ranged from an Iraq-based army bomb technician in The Hurt Locker and a Boston bank robber in The Town to a crooked Camden mayor in American Hustle before he became heir to the Jason Bourne franchise (The Bourne Legacy). Amongst other iconic roles, he also captured hearts as fan-favorite comic book marksman Hawkeye in seven Marvel films.
Yet, his otherworldly success on-screen faded to the periphery when a fourteen-thousand-pound snowplow crushed him on New Year’s Day 2023. Somehow able to keep breathing for more than half an hour, he was subsequently rushed to the ICU, after which he would face multiple surgeries and months of painful rehabilitation.
In this debut memoir, Jeremy writes in blistering detail about his accident and the aftermath. This retelling is not merely a gruesome account of what happened to him; it’s a call to action and a forged companionship between reader and author as Jeremy recounts his recovery journey and reflects on the impact of his suffering. Ultimately, Jeremy’s memoir is a testament to the human spirit and its capacity to endure, evolve, and find purpose in the face of unimaginable adversity. His writing captures the essence of profound transformation, exploring the delicate interplay between vulnerability and strength, despair and hope, redemption and renewal.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
This astonishing memoir tells of a famed actor’s survival from a horrific accident—and how he got a new lease on life during his recovery. Marvel star Jeremy Renner recounts the moment he saved his nephew’s life from a runaway snowplow, sustaining dozens of broken bones in the process. More than simply telling us about his accident and subsequent surgeries, Renner writes about his life beforehand, showing how his upbringing—from changing siblings’ diapers to attending his mom’s birthing class to learn breathing techniques to manage pain—gave him the strength to survive. In telling his story, Renner goes beyond his own point of view to include his loved ones’ perspectives, like his daughter Ava’s essay about her pride in her father after the accident. My Next Breath is a heart-wrenching yet inspiring treatise on realizing what’s valuable in life and the importance of taking action to protect family at all costs.

When fame doesn’t help you
I don’t know to terribly much about the super hero he played, but I’m thinking he has now surpassed Hawkeye’s power. Really ironic about his “eye”. It’s a good read. With such a large loving family, I was hoping there would be a significant other who also saw the things they do. My husband and I also watch Mayor of Kingstown!
Inspiring, raw, gut wrenching couldn’t put it down
Read it in a day. It was that well done and that interesting. Inspiring powerful and very positive attitude . Strength personified. God bless Jeremy Renner for being such a strong and good man!
Divine Intervention for a purpose
Barb Fletcher, who was one of first on the scene of accident to save Jeremy, sums this book up with one statement she made after the recovery:
“It just wasn’t your time. You do a lot of good for people, a lot of good for this community. That’s why you’re still here.”
The account of injuries sustained while barely missing vital organs is shocking. Wow. One only can think it’s for a reason.
This book definitely makes one pause to really think about what in life is truly important. It causes you to think about what your true purpose is in life. It will also show the wide impact high profile people can have in helping others. Good read. Good person. Thank you Jeremy for all you do to help others. Highly recommended read.
