Maha is a 34-year old Egyptian girl with a varied and international background. She has a mother who lives in Egypt and a brother in Singapore. Her father died some years ago, leaving a gaping hole in her heart. Maha lives in Egypt and has a love-hate relationship with the place. She wishes for two things: One, to leave Egypt. Two, to meet the love of her life and who will keep her “anchored”. She is on a quest to find love and attempts to discover it in many different ways. Her bestie, Fudz, initially tries to help by setting Maha up on a date with an Egyptian man, which doesn't pan out as hoped. Feeling down and out, Maha begins to have serious thoughts of leaving Egypt – again – and writes a pros and cons list. She is so attached to the place, yet she imagines that it is akin to being stuck in a bad marriage; one that she cannot leave. Maha decides to become proactive and look for work overseas. She attends an employment fair in London for a long weekend it is during this time she meets a handsome, charming American who makes her feel giddy, and it feels as though the stars align - again. However, Maha quickly gets her hopes dashed! Back in Egypt, she goes to see a medium to find out what her future holds and hears some interesting insights. The medium tells her she will be embarking upon a long journey to the East. After months of applying online, Maha boards a plane to Singapore, her new home-to-be. On the flight, she reminisces about her past, her beloved father and the Egyptian Revolution of 2011, which she was a part of. Maha feels both excited and scared about her new life. After a 14 hour flight, Maha finally arrives and gets acquainted with her new apartment and South East Asia’s creepy-crawlies, which freak her out. She spends her first night on the phone with loved ones back home and wishes she could return. Over the following days, Maha decides to get a Tinder account and begin searching for her Prince. Determined as ever, she also joins a dating agency. She has several laughable dating experiences (several that she’d like to forget) and also gets into trouble at work due to over-drinking and suffering a bleeding hangover. And so the story continues to unfold as Maha desperately attempts to find love, only to realise that she must first learn to love herself.
