Nākamaokamoananuiakānekanaloa - The children of the expansive oceans of Kāne and Kanaloa -The haumana of Papa Kilo Hōkū, Hanauna ʻEkolu (SY2019-2020) were led through a journey to gain ʻike around non-instrument navigation. This includes kilo and observation methods, celestial navigation and the Hawaiian Starlines, understanding weather patterns, winds, currents and basic understanding of seamanship and charting. They have developed into leaders to impact the lāhui and the world. Two haumana, Devin and Laʻakea, were inspired to haku oli to represent the journey of their papa and to be utilized in our class moving forward, as well as the voyaging community. Through our ʻōlelo makuahine and various imagery, this book brings their moʻoleo about the old and includes experiences from their school year to all that will hear and see this oli. Edited by Hiʻilei Dikilato to create a visually dynamic moʻolelo of the journey of the papa.
