Native Plant Landscaping; A Guide for Central Oregon

The interest in native plant landscaping has been growing for many years.  Savvy gardeners and landscapers have always known that native plants provide a broad range of benefits for humans and other creatures, and academic research is catching up in recognizing how native landscapes can contribute to regional ecological health and improve living conditions for people, especially in urban settings. 

This booklet offers a basic discussion on the unique elements associated with native plant landscaping in central Oregon.  We discuss a range of environmental considerations, soils, plants, and maintenance practices that affect the success and long-term performance of native plant landscapes.  The information is presented for gardeners and landscapers in the high desert environment of central Oregon, but the concepts discussed apply to a much broader audience.
