This book has been written with a view to create awareness among students and other readers about various kinds of hazards and disasters. Dr. Sushmitha Baskar, is presently with the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar. Her extensive research work abroad includes studies done at the Department of Earth Sciences, Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich (2002-04), and at the Centre for Geobiology, University of Bergen, Norway (2008-09) and at Stockholm University, Sweden (2009-10). She has authored two books on Environmental Sciences for Engineering Undergraduates (2007), and Environmental Sciences for Undergraduate Courses (2007) along with her husband Dr. R. Baskar. Dr. R. Baskar is Associate Professor in the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering at the Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar. He has participated in conferences held in India, Switzerland, Germany, Sri Lanka, France and Norway. A few of his research works include those done in the Department of Earth Sciences, University of Paris-Sud (1990-91), the Department of Earth Sciences, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich, (2003-04) and at the Centre for Geobiology, Bergen, Norway (2008-2009).
