The NET Bible is a modern English version, with 60,932 footnotes that help explain the translation. It's an entirely new way of looking at translation, that the translators themselves justify the words they choose and provide bibliographic, linguistic and textual support for those words.
Needs an update
Did the publisher die? This needs an update to fix a few issues that other readers have described. I can't find that it was updated even once after release.
I love this translation, came across it 8 years ago in college and it has been my favorite study bible every since. Had the iPhone app before and it was good but once I got the IPad I was thrilled to see there was an iBook available for it. Just like having the original book with me but so much thinner and lighter. It's worth $5 to have all the notes. If you don't already have it, get it. You won't be disappointed.
NET Bible in iBook
I love this version, and I can quickly view the notes with a tap on my iPhone 4. I wish there was a back link to back to the passage that has the note number. Instead I am finding that I must look up the passage again to go back to where to the passage I was reading that had the reference number to notes.
