Neurobiology of Substance Use Disorders

SARET and Others

Publisher Description

This book contains peer-reviewed material that describes key structures of the brain responsible for addiction. Victor, our case patient discussed throughout the book, exemplifies the emotional effects that substance abuse can have on loved ones.

This book is intended to: 1) facilitate the recognition of addiction as a disease of the brain, and 2) provide an understanding of how neurobiology research informs the treatment of addiction.

The Substance Abuse Research Education and Training (SARET) Program is an innovative initiative to spur interest in substance abuse and related research among students from diverse disciplines. SARET is a collaboration between NYU’s School of Medicine, College of Nursing, College of Dentistry and School of Social Work.
