"Filled with fabulously British banter, wit, and heart, this delightful book is one of my must-read rom coms of the year." - Evie Dunmore, USA Today bestselling author of Portrait of a Scotsman
“Virginia Heath’s fun characters and situations will have you laughing out loud! Don’t miss this wonderful read!” - Sabrina Jeffries, New York Times bestselling author
The first in a new historical rom-com series, a handsome earl hires a fake fiancée to keep his matchmaking mother at bay, but hilarity ensues when love threatens to complicate everything.
The last thing Hugh Standish, Earl of Fareham, ever wants is a wife. Unfortunately for him, his mother is determined to find him one, even from across the other side of the ocean. So Hugh invents a fake fiancée to keep his mother’s matchmaking ways at bay. But when Hugh learns his interfering mother is on a ship bound for England, he realizes his complicated, convoluted but convenient ruse is about to implode. Until he collides with a beautiful woman, who might just be the miracle he needs.
Minerva Merriwell has had to struggle to support herself and her two younger sisters ever since their feckless father abandoned them. Work as a woodcut engraver is few and far between, and the Merriwell sisters are nearly penniless. So when Hugh asks Minerva to pose as his fiancée while his mother is visiting, she knows that while the scheme sounds ludicrous, the offer is too good to pass up.
Once Minerva and her sisters arrive at Hugh's estate, of course nothing goes according to his meticulous plan. As hilarity and miscommunication ensue while everyone tries to keep their tangled stories straight, Hugh and Minerva’s fake engagement starts to turn into a real romance. But can they trust each other when their relationship started with a lie? The first book in the Merriwell Sisters series, Never Fall for Your Fiancée is a hilarious, sparkling historical romantic comedy from Virginia Heath.
Heath (How Not to Chaperone a Lady) launches a historical rom-com series with this fun, charming tale of a lie spun wildly out of control. Hugh Standish, Earl of Fareham, has resolved never to marry, but his headstrong mother is determined to find him a wife. To evade her long-distance matchmaking, Hugh invents a fiancée named Minerva, whom he describes in detailed letters over the course of two years. Then his mother announces her intention to visit and finally meet Hugh's intended. Luckily for him, he happens to meet the beautiful but impoverished artist Minerva Merriwell, who agrees to pose as Hugh's fiancée and, when the time is right, stage a broken engagement in exchange for 40 pounds. Unluckily for him, he and Minerva have a genuine connection, and his fake fiancée may wind up a greater threat to his independence than his meddling mother. Their ruse is also complicated by the delightful cast of supporting characters, including Hugh's disdainful butler, Minerva's difficult younger sisters, and the showboating actor Hugh hires to play their mother. Heath's sole misstep is an overreliance on miscommunication to drive the plot, but the farcical group scenes will have readers laughing out loud. This is well worth a look.
4 Stars! This was a really cute historical rom-com that is the first in a new series ‘The Merriwell Sisters’ and can be read as a standalone, with a HEA ending. Although I found some of it completely unbelievable, I still really enjoyed the book and would definitely recommend it! It was fun, with a few twists and had me smiling quite a bit. I wish it had an epilogue because I can’t stop thinking about how the story will continue & if Hugh’s friend and Minerva’s sister are the next couple!? I loved Minerva & Hugh, even if I wanted to slap him at times.(Which would be difficult to do, seeing as he’s a fictional character!) I look forward to reading the rest of the series and hope they come out soon!

Some Things Just Are
Never Fall for Your Fiancée is a delightfully charming romantic comedy starring Hugh Standish, Earl of Fareham, and Miss Minerva Merriwell. When Hugh finds out Mama is coming to England to meet his fiancée, he hires Minerva to be said fiancée. You see, he really doesn’t have one. Can they make Mama believe they are a couple, without actually getting married? It will be lots of fun to find out. The characters in this story are marvelous. Personalities jump off the page. Hugh and Minerva are an entertaining couple. I love the snarky banter and the sweet moments between them. Giles, the sisters, the butler, and the actress all added to the fun. The story sailed along nicely and was quite enjoyable. A happily ever after? Well, of course. This is a lovely beginning to a new series. I look forward to the next story.

Laugh Out Loud Funny And Sweet Romance
This book was EXCELLENT! I fell in love with it immediately. I couldn’t put it down and need more in the series now. It was laugh out loud funny, had heartwarming and realistic family dynamics, multiple strong female characters and a swoon worthy male lead. What more could you need in a romance?!
I’m usually a dark and brooding book boyfriend type but fell for the light hearted and unbelievable kind and sweet Hugh.
I 10000% suggest this book if you want a funny, sweet and full of sexual tension read.
Definitely one of my favorite reads of the year.
