Publisher Description
The “Ruta del Café” aims to promote local economic development and the generation of jobs through tourism, and specifically promotes the coffee producing region of Nicaragua. The initial project that gave birth to this route was implemented by INTUR with the support of the Luxembourg Agency for Development Cooperation (LuxDev). This tourist destination covers the five regions located in the Northern Central region of the country: Estelí, Jinotega, Madriz, Matagalpa and Nueva Segovia. Known as a region of cool mountains and cloud forests, the North offers much more. In this region they live traditions with their “mazurkas” and “polkas”, clay craftsmanship, marmolina stone carving craftsmanship and corn husk craftsmanship while also producing exceptional products such as coffee, tobacco or their famous “rosquillas”, oven baked corn donuts.
The fresh climate in this region favors coffee cultivation, which has one of its historical cradles and characterizes both the economy and culture of the society in these municipalities. In addition to the coffee farms in the rural areas, the area along the corridor between Sébaco and Matagalpa is home to the agro-industrial plants, structures that evidently benefit these communities where coffee is processed, selected and finally dispatched for export.
The objective of this interactive book "The Coffee Route" is to promote the country’s diversity of the northern region by department providing maps and lists of attractions to guide visitors interested in visiting this area. The digitization of the information of the route that makes it accessible to international tourism through digital networks, is an effort of collaboration between Nicaragua Turismo e Inversión and Slick Developers with the support of the Luxembourg Cooperation.
