I signed the NDA before I ever saw his face.
Nora Vance needed the job more than she needed her pride — a twelve-month contract position inside Callum Ashgrove's private equity firm, doing due diligence on a deal so sensitive the paperwork alone took an hour to sign. What the contract didn't mention: the position came with a live-in clause. Company housing, company car, company everything, for the duration of the deal. No leaving the compound without sign-off. No phone that isn't monitored. No explanation, except that Callum Ashgrove doesn't trust anyone with what she now knows — and he isn't willing to let her out of arm's reach until the deal closes.
She tells herself it's temporary. She tells herself the way he watches her across the boardroom table, like he's cataloguing every reaction, is just control. She tells herself the nights she can't sleep have nothing to do with the man three doors down the hall who never seems to sleep either.
Callum tells himself the same lies. That keeping her close is strategy, not want. That the way she pushes back against every rule he sets is defiance to be managed, not something he's starting to crave. That the twelve months have a hard stop, and nothing that happens inside them can follow either of them out the door.
Neither of them believes it for long.
As the deal closes in around them and the real reason for the secrecy comes to light, Nora and Callum have to decide whether the cage he built was ever meant to keep her out — or keep her in, with him.
