Publisher Description
When the bottom fell out of Carol Masheter's life at age 50, she took up mountaineering to cope with her grief and anger. Little did she know that mountaineering would lead her to try Everest when she was 61 in 2008. "No Magic Helicopter: An Aging Amazon's Climb of Mount Everest" chronicles her preparation for the climb, the struggle to the summit, and the blind descent that nearly cost her life. Currently, Dr. Masheter is the second oldest woman in the world to summit Everest and return home alive.

Among the best of Mt. Everest books
Dr. Carol Masheter’s account of her Mt Everest climb is among the best of Mt. Everest books. I am a big fan of books about Mt Everest and I had read many prior to reading “No Magic Helicopter.”
Dr. Masheter paints a vivid, spellbinding account in her marvelous book. After reading it, I decided to ask Dr. Masheter speak at a diversity lecture I had established at my undergraduate alma mater, East Central University, in my hometown of Ada Oklahoma.
Dr. Masheter spoke on April 18th 2012 to a large audience on campus. They were enthralled by her account and the photos she showed of the climb.
I had the opportunity to speak at length with Dr. Masheter during the 70 minute trip from the Oklahoma City airport to Ada.
Dr. Masheter has not only climbed Mt. Everest, but all the “Seven Summits”—the highest peaks on every continent in the world.
I hope you find this book as compelling as I did, and I hope you will recommend it to friends.
Respectfully,
