The information about compound sentences is incorrect. It makes it seem as if two independent clauses can be joined by a comma subordinate conjunction; however that is not the case. The subordinate conjunction “because” is not the same as using a coordinating conjunction such as the FANBOYS (for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so). Thus, a novice grammar teacher may not know the difference, and these materials are incorrect.
