"It’s Terminator meets My Fair Lady in this fascinating debut of black magic and brilliant ball gowns, martial arts, and mysticism.
England, 1888. The trees are green, the birds are singing, and no one has any idea that in a few hundred years, demons will destroy it all. Joan plans to keep it that way. All she has to do is take out the dark magician responsible—before he summons the demons in the first place. But as a rough-around-the-edges assassin from that bleak future, she’ll have to learn how to fit into polite Victorian society to get close to her target.
Simon Grenville has his own reasons for wanting to destroy Alex Reynell. The man used to be his best friend—until his practice of the dark arts almost killed Simon’s sister. The beautiful half-naked stranger Simon meets in the woods may be the perfect instrument for his revenge. It will just take a little time to teach her the necessary etiquette and assemble a proper wardrobe. But as each day passes, Simon is less sure he wants Joan anywhere near Reynell. Because no spell in the world will save his future if she isn’t in it."
A woman from a dystopian future crashes into the lavish past in a compelling debut that smartly mixes history, action, romance, and magic. Joan comes from a future where humanity is losing the war against demonic forces unleashed by a 200-year-old evil wizard, Alex Reynell. To destroy Reynell, Joan goes back to England in 1888, where magician Simon Grenville becomes her guide to a completely different way of life. When she practices proper Victorian flirtation on Simon, their heady attraction flares. Cooper deftly welds together secret magical practice, the society games of Victorian England, and the threat of a hellish future with the heat of Joan and Simon's frustrated passions. It's easy to forgive the occasionally clunky prose, given how well Cooper combines such disparate tropes into a cohesive and very fun story.

The book has an interesting spin on the common theme of good/evil and love. Not the best read, but ok.
Clever and imaginative!
I highly recommend this book to those who enjoy fantasy. The plot is fascinating and fast-moving. The hero and heroine have a charming romance, and the hero's sister shows maturity and courage. I enjoyed every page and look forward to more of this talented author's work.
Couldn't get past the first few pages. The phrasing was awkward and could not grab my attention. I want my money back.
