An Anthology of Verse
This collection of poems reflects the Nomad's journey through diverse landscapes, exploring the internal and external aspects of their quest for meaning and connection. Each poem captures a different facet of their adventure, blending vivid imagery with deep emotional resonance.
The Departure
I leave the streets that held me
in their embrace of stone and steel,
a city that wore its pulse like a crown,
where faces passed like flickering flames,
and laughter rippled in the market square
like water over jagged rocks.
There, I felt the weight of roots pulling,
but my feet grew restless, my heart a sail.
I was drawn by the whisper of far-off winds,
the promise of places unseen, unknown.
I leave, not with sorrow, not with joy—
just the quiet urgency of a lone bird
breaking from its flock.
The Guide’s Arrival
At the edge of the city, a shadow waits—
a figure draped in dusk, half light, half dark.
He speaks in riddles spun from the twilight air,
words like pebbles dropped into a well,
each syllable rippling through the deep.
“Who are you?” I ask,
but he only smiles, a crescent moon grin,
and whispers, “Follow the paths that call to you,
listen to the stones beneath your feet.”
Then he is gone, a wisp of smoke
lost to the evening wind.
A Market of Whispers
In the heart of a city wrapped in neon and noise,
where vendors sing their wares like ancient hymns,
and the air is thick with saffron and incense,
I wander through a marketplace of stories.
Here, a woman sells silk woven from moonlight,
each thread spun with the dreams of midnight lovers.
There, a man with eyes like shattered glass
offers maps to places that don’t exist,
or do they, only in the spaces between breaths?
I move among them, silent as smoke,
listening for the echoes of a voice,
a melody that drifts just out of reach.
I am searching, always searching—
for what, I do not yet know.
The Sea’s Secrets
In a village by the sea, where the waves
murmur secrets to the rocks,
I sit on the edge of the world,
toes dipped in salt and foam,
watching the gulls carve silver lines in the sky.
The sea speaks in tongues of sorrow and song,
its vast expanse a mirror to my own.
I wonder, as I watch the tides come and go,
if the sea ever grows weary of its restlessness,
its eternal dance with the shore.
A fisherman tells me tales of creatures
that live beneath the waves, unseen, unknown,
and I think perhaps I am one of them—
a creature searching for light in the deep.
In the Desert’s Embrace
The desert is a place of forgetting,
where the sands shift like memories in the wind,
where mirages flicker like ghosts in the distance,
and the sun burns away all that is unnecessary.
I walk through dunes that rise like ancient tombs,
each step a journey into silence,
into a landscape that holds no promise
but the promise of itself—vast, endless,
a canvas for the soul’s wanderings.
Here, I feel the weight of my own being,
stripped of all but breath and heartbeat,
and I know that I am closer to myself
than I have ever been.
The Stranger’s Warning
A figure appears at the horizon’s edge,
a silhouette against the dying light.
His eyes are shadows, his mouth a line
etched by years of sun and sand.
“Beware the shadows that follow you,”
he says, voice like gravel underfoot.
“They are hungry, and they know your name.”
I do not ask who he is,
or why he speaks in warnings and riddles.
I only nod, feeling the weight of his words
settle into the cracks of my bones.
In the Forest’s Grasp
I enter a forest where the trees stretch skyward,
their leaves a choir of green whispers.
Sunlight falls in broken shards,
dappling the earth with patterns of light and shadow.
Here, the air is thick with the scent of pine and moss,
and the silence hums with life unseen.
I feel the forest pressing close,
its breath warm against my skin,
its roots reaching deep into my thoughts.
I lose myself in its winding paths,
forgetting where I came from,
where I am going—
just a wanderer in a place that does not know time,
does not care for direction.
The Lovers’ Song
There were two loves, each a star
in the constellation of my heart.
One, a blaze of fire, fierce and fleeting,
a comet burning bright against the night,
leaving ashes in its wake.
The other, a steady glow, soft and enduring,
a moon that waxed and waned but never left,
its light a balm against the dark.
I loved them both—
the fire for its heat, the moon for its light,
and now, in the quiet spaces between breaths,
I remember them as one remembers dreams—
with longing and a touch of sorrow.
At the Abandoned Castle
An old castle crumbles at the cliff’s edge,
its stones worn smooth by wind and rain.
I stand in its shadow, listening to the sea
pound against the rocks below,
a rhythmic reminder of time’s unending march.
Here, I find a room with no roof,
only the sky above, wide and wild.
I imagine who lived here, who dreamed
under this open ceiling,
who loved and lost and laughed
within these walls now hollow with ghosts.
I sit on a broken step,
feeling the weight of history press close,
and for a moment, I am not alone—
I am a part of something larger,
something that stretches beyond myself.
The Shadow’s Embrace
At night, the shadows stretch long,
curling around my feet like vines.
I see them in the corners of my vision,
dark shapes that move with my movements,
that breathe when I breathe.
They whisper to me, soft as wind,
words I cannot always understand,
but I feel their weight,
the truth buried deep in their dark tongues.
I have feared them, fought them,
but now, I let them come,
let them wrap their arms around me,
and I whisper back, “I am not afraid.”
At the Mountain’s Peak
Above the clouds, the air is thin,
each breath a prayer to the sky.
I stand at the mountain’s peak,
looking down at the world spread out
like a quilt of greens and blues.
Here, I feel the pull of the earth below,
the gravity that tethers me to all that I am,
all that I have been,
and yet, there is a freedom in this height,
a lightness in the lungs,
a clarity in the eyes.
I see my journey laid out before me—
the roads I have walked, the rivers crossed,
the deserts wandered, the forests lost.
And I know that I am still moving,
still searching for that place
where the heart can rest,
if only for a moment.
