Nomadic Roots captures a young couple’s journey across America as they build Earthships, live off-the-grid, and build their own home for just $10,000. This is a story about sustainable architecture, alternative building, epic road trips, and a search for the simple life.


In 2012, Taylor & Steph quit their jobs and moved to New Mexico to pursue a dream of building sustainable houses. They studied under architect Mike Reynolds and joined the Earthship Biotecture crew, building unique net-zero homes all across the country. After exploring America from coast to coast, they settled in the mountains of Santa Cruz, California where they built their own handmade home using natural and repurposed materials.


Their photos and their story reflect their love of the outdoors and their desire to lead an adventurous, low-impact lifestyle. Part memoir, part how-to, Nomadic Roots is a one-of-a-kind story meant to inspire readers to chase their dreams and simplify their lives.
