“You will love Nona, and Nona loves you.” —Alix E. Harrow

Her city is under siege.
The zombies are coming back.
And all Nona wants is a birthday party.
In many ways, Nona is like other people. She lives with her family, has a job at her local school, and loves walks on the beach and meeting new dogs. But Nona's not like other people. Six months ago she woke up in a stranger's body, and she's afraid she might have to give it back.
The whole city is falling to pieces. A monstrous blue sphere hangs on the horizon, ready to tear the planet apart. Blood of Eden forces have surrounded the last Cohort facility and wait for the Emperor Undying to come calling. Their leaders want Nona to be the weapon that will save them from the Nine Houses. Nona would prefer to live an ordinary life with the people she loves, with Pyrrha and Camilla and Palamedes, but she also knows that nothing lasts forever.
And each night, Nona dreams of a woman with a skull-painted face...

PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Muir tackles a new perspective in this characteristically brilliant successor to Harrow the Ninth, which offers a much more personal and tightly framed focus than the rest of the Locked Tomb series. Nona's been alive for six months with no memory of who she was before awakening in her new body. She enjoys working as a teacher's aide, petting dogs, and hanging out with her squad of friends, and she has no desire to reckon with the world beyond her comfortable little life: the zombies, the resettlements, the giant blue sphere that hangs above her planet. But whether she likes it or not, Nona's true identity is the key that shapes the empire, and with that empire in disarray, every force in the universe has their eyes on her, fixated on who she may have been and who she could become. Muir's skill is such that readers will be desperate to find out the truth of Nona's background but will still savor the quiet moments with this heartbreaking character. Nona's lovely, simple, and occasionally silly voice works especially well in juxtaposition with the dark, dense backdrop of the series so far, creating a riveting contrast. Readers will be on the edges of their seats.

Blown away yet again
Just as fantastic as the previous two installments. I’m yet again astonished by the use of language, character, seamless world-building. Nona was a treasure to follow and worth every word.
Nona is a Different but Engrossing Novel in The Locked Tomb Series!
“Nona the Ninth” is the newly released third book in Tamsyn Muir’s The Locked Tomb Series. Like the previous two books, it’s amazing and very different. It takes place in a science fantasy setting where technology and necromancy coexist. There’s more background given in this book on how this universe came to be, which is chapters that are interspersed with the actual narrative of Nona’s story.
Nona is a simple girl, barely an adult physically, and only months old mentally. She is open and caring, and has a job as a teacher’s aide at the local school. She lives on a planet that is mostly composed of refugees who are just trying to survive. She has a group of friends that she wants to be a part of. Her caretakers are interesting people, two of whom inhabit one body. Of course, none of this is as simple as it seems.
Fans of The Locked Tomb Series will get a lot out of this book! It will also not be straightforward or easily grasped, but would we expect anything different? Nona’s simple, childlike, and likable point of view makes this a different sort of story. Nevertheless, the narrative of The Locked Tomb will be advanced, and some its history revealed. It’s a wild ride getting there, and it had me enthralled the whole way. The story will continue (and be concluded?) in the future forth novel “Alecto the Ninth.”
