Publisher Description

In 1998, Ali Michael, a white, American student, spent time with Nonzwakazi Gertrude Sgwentu, a Black South African woman.

In long discussions over many months, Ali documented Nonzwakazi's remarkable story. This book documents her amazing life, from escaping from the farm in rural South Africa, to her childhood and coming of age in the Cape Town region, to the founding of an NGO.

Ali and Nonzwakazi have now collaborated with their good friend, James Jarrett, to bring this amazing story to a wider audience. Enjoy.
