Publisher Description

NuktaArt addresses the impact of electronic and mass media boom in Pakistan with five of the seven participating artists, Asad Hussain, Munawar Ali, Roohi Ahmed, Abdullah Syed, Auj Khan, Irfan Shah and Farah Jamaluddin, and curator Sumbul Khan, at the opening show of the Poppy Seed Gallery, in Karachi. Discussions between the editors of NuktaArt, the curator and the artists of 'The Moving Image' attempt to reveal the layers of engagement that emerge between artistic practice and its relevance within the curatorial approach using Jean Braudrillard's model of media and culture, its interpretation and translation, and whether or not it has been necessary to engage within this Western theoretical framework, or to use it as a departure point. How the experiential translates into artistic practice and to locate its meeting points with the theoretical. The participating artists are those who work within the media and some who are outside it and have already formulated their position towards the subject of massmedia, regardless of a formal theoretical level. This dialogue attempts to articulate the nature of this discourse.
