Publisher Description

Innovation isn't an unpredictable "Eureka!" moment. It's the natural result of a process that can be planned, controlled, and implemented at will. But most companies don't understand this process—and that's why so many fail to build great custom software.

In Obsessively Thorough Software Design, Epicenter Consulting founder Clark Valberg and legendary software architect Hal Helms guide us through a proven methodology that gets inspired results every time. Drawing on experience working with companies such as UPS, eBay, Adobe and IBM, the authors examine the fundamental flaws in traditional development processes—and demystify the art of innovative software design.

Software for success

While I have read many business and software books this book stands out in practice. You don't need to buy into every sentence to apply and win with what is being taught by Hal and Clark here. You will win more often if you do catch the spirit of what they are sharing.

Unreadable due to text size

Each page is like a picture that you must open and pinch just to make it half-way legible. The content is equally frustrating. It seems like the book was whipped together over a week as a way to make an extra buck on the side. The high reviews have to be boosters. I cannot imagine anyone giving this book 5 stars.

Difficult Read

The publisher of this book did what appears to be a nice job for a print layout but in this iBooks version they have completely restricted what you as a reader can do. Each page is a static image of fairly low resolution which renders the book in such a way the the text is jagged and difficult to read. Additionally you can select to have the text displayed in two sizes -> tiny or microscopic. Within just a few minutes of picking up my iPad and attempting to read this book I was struck with such a headache that I didn't make it through the first chapter. Honestly I'm surprised this made it through the Apple approval process.

Anyway, save your money and buy the paperback copy until they get this sorted out. At least then you can share it with your boss / co-workers / friends.
