Odd Man Out

“Friendship is a delusion and a snare,” declares a night watchman—then recalls two sailors so inseparable they might have shared one pair of boots, one on each foot.

Now ashore in London, Ted Denver and Charlie Brice still go everywhere together—until Ted meets Emma White on a bus and falls for her. Emma wants Ted to herself; Charlie insists on staying by his friend’s side, even when his well-meant advice and a torn lace collar make him less than welcome. Then Emma brings along her friend, the widowed Mrs. Jennings, who takes a striking interest in Charlie. As romance tangles with loyalty, the old pals face a choice neither seems ready to make. Can their friendship survive the company it keeps?
