Publisher Description
These are the true stories of several of America's most notorious Black and Latino gangsters whose careers created the utmost revered legends of the past 40 years. Their exploits and extremes have been chronicled across many mediums, including film and television but as a firsthand participant in the lifestyle, I was a friend to many and a contemporary of most so I have written stories that few have either the knowledge or experience to share. This is BEYOND THE HOOD.

Cut from a different cloth
What they have done is lock up our warriors. Boys of influence who weren't reared to lead. Boys of power who hadn't yet understood the reason for power. Their youthful need to be acknowledged being the only thing they have achieved. That limelight bringing them the devils gaze before they recognized the light isn't sufficient enough to lead the way. These young warriors now speak as men fully aware that their incarcerations are not just legal but the quelling of black power. Generations of black power is sitting behind bars with no one to raise their boys into men. These pages are their warriors lessons to their sons on the outside.
Cavarioh has written a book from my perspective. One in which no matter my rearing I have always felt like I did not quite belong. That I was witness more that participant. Imagine how that feels when everything about the streets means you must be aware. You learn it from a child in the park early. That insight and awareness to a thinking mind can be horror. When you know that what you're doing you're not really committed to. What does that person do? He leaves well before his demise and he teaches others how to see it. Cavarioh has done just that in his writing.
The book is written from perspectives, three of them. You hear the sides of the oppression, whether government or situational oppression. You hear the side of the voluntary, involuntary or a combination of both incarcerated. We need these sides cause we only get one side in the media. The other side is never heard but Don Diva magazine gave us that.
What's most revealing about this book is that third side, the side of human perspective. Perspective is necessary in all studies. If you don't know it you can mistake the evidence before you. There is thought in perspective, insight, caution, culture, circumstance, programming and recklessness but without it you don't really know the characters reasons. Why they risk life and limb, if they are aware of it or just born into it. Knowing this brings a clarity most never contemplate. I say buy and comprehend so that you will be better when you're really in need of the clarity, fortitude and power it take to make a powerful decision. ~elhaq
