Publisher Description
This is the story of the oldest warship afloat in the world, the venerable frigate USS Constitution, the cornerstone of the nascent American navy created by act of Congress in 1794. Colonel David Fitz-Enz re-creates the world of sail, when seven knots an hour was considered blinding speed for a warship. In Old Ironsides, Fitz-Enz tells the story of the ship, from its construction to the ongoing restoration efforts that keep it active today.

I did enjoy the book. The entire life of the ship to date was covered and that was what I was looking for. The description of the cannon size was pretty neat. I really got a sense of how difficult it was to operate a complex machine like this with a mostly new crew every time. I got a decent idea of life on board...would have preferred more details. The brass monkey description was a good one. I really just wanted details about the ship and maybe less about politics at the time. I do recommend it.
