Oliver Cromwell

Oliver Cromwell's rule had considerable impact on the Penn family. Penn's father was in the British military during both the Protestant rebellion that gained Cromwell the throne and the subsequent reinstatement of the monarchy. During Cromwell's reign, he gave the Penn family land in Ireland—land that Penn would later return to as one of his many homes.
