Publisher Description
John Patterson has always been a loner. At a young age, he left behind his Colorado home for the adventure and isolation of the Himalayas. But after years spent building his reputation in the climbing circuit, his heroic rescue of an inexperienced climber on Everest results in the loss of his leg.
Michelle Bonheur still blames herself for the car accident that killed her husband Adam two years ago. Since Adam's death, Michelle's life has been career-focused, and lonely. When her best friend Cam convinces her that the two should fulfill Adam's dream of hiking the Himalayas, Michelle reluctantly accepts.
As John and Michelle's paths converge in Nepal, they navigate the winding mountain trails together and discover they're not alone in their grief, the guilt they carry, or their attraction to each other.
When disaster strikes one morning on the Annapurna circuit, the two wounded souls find themselves in peril, and Michelle makes a decision that will change both of their lives.

I think this story really has promise, just some of the details need some work
I really liked this book, and it fully held my attention. Also loved setting of high altitude mountaineering in Nepal. That’s always been a Side interest of mine, and I actually studied adventure guiding in school. About halfway through the novel I decided that I wanted to meet John and Michelle and many of the main characters. I also really appreciated the positive disability representation in John being an amputation survivor and realistic depiction of how he would probably feel about his injury with “trying to get back in the game” and all.
As an aside, just some thing that I noticed, is that John did not carry a satellite phone on his expedition or be trained in wilderness medicine – – as that is pretty standard for wilderness guides. After all, If you are going to be responsible for with people in a remote area like the Annapurna Circuit you need to be able to get help.
Reason for the four star reading instead of five stars, that I thought the story ended rather did a little suddenly and left some unanswered questions. For example, Michelle wakes up and they decide to move to Canada together and have their happily ever after? Even though she just had a dangerous infection and emergency surgery. That easy, huh? And shouldn’t John have known where his other clients- like Brian and Vic- were post- disaster? Just because there is someone who John thinks is attractive on his trip, doesn’t mean that he can abdicate h is responsibility to everyone else. 😏
Overall though, I found it a really good and fast read, and it was good to see some different perspectives.
