On the Whale Road

"On the Whale Road" records the adventures and misadventures of a small yacht sailing in Scotland over 3 seasons. Robinetta was built in 1937, designed to cruise from Liverpool to Scotland. She now boasts the modern safety features of a depth gauge, radio, and chart-plotter, but remains true to her original task, of providing a comfortable home from home for a couple who enjoy exploring the coastal waters of the British Isles. Robinetta is less than 7m on deck, but being long keeled and well ballasted Julian and Alison are happy to sail her long distances in the right weather. 
Between 2023 and 2025 they took her south from the Clyde to the Isle of Man, and north to Oban, both round the Mull of Kintyre and through the Crinan canal. From Oban they headed north, all the way to Yell in Shetland, before turning south again to cruise in the Moray Firth before returning to the Clyde via Orkney and the Outer Hebrides. These trips saw Robinetta covering over 2768nm, roughly the distance between the Canaries and the Caribbean, but visiting nearly 80 different locations.
