Publisher Description
When unexpected adventures are in the offing, it's best to jump in despite potential heartbreak.
Michael Ashworth, Viscount of Winteringham, has been a widower and a father for nearly eight years. Living with grief and uncertainty as well as the after-affects from the war leave him drained, but he must be strong for the sake of his son. When he accidentally overhears a faint, whispered plea in the Reading Room at the British Museum in a feminine tone, it practically demands that he come up to the mark and help.
Miss Charity Maitland is the daughter of an antiquities dealer, and she is quite alone in life. Though she's not a stranger to relics and secrets due to her father's pawn broker shop, it is that knowledge which has led her into trouble. When she's kidnapped by a strange man who wants information her father had regarding a specific tiara once belonging to the daughter of an Egyptian pharaoh—though she's never seen the piece—her life is in jeopardy from her captor.
Which leads to a marriage of convenience, for Charity requires protection. When an unexpected kiss between the nuptial pair ignites mutual unwanted attraction, they ignore it to hunt for the tiara. Staying one step ahead of the criminal network who wishes to gain the piece proves difficult, especially when Winteringham encounters a villainess who despises the Rogue's Arcade men. Working together and allowing fate to have at them might mean stumbling upon something more valuable than the tiara—love, family, and belonging—unless they don't survive the madwoman's machinations…

a wild, exciting and inspiring ride
Wow! Michael, Viscount Winteringham, is a member of the Rogue’s Arcade Club. His wife died three years ago, he has an eight year old son named Christopher, and his wartime flashbacks, which tend to immobilize him, have increased in frequency. Shortly after telling his fellow brothers-in-arms that he has no intentions of remarrying, he rescues a damsel in distress and proposes a marriage of convenience in order to keep her safe.
Still reeling six months after her father’s death, Charity is unpacking crates in her father’s pawn shop when a man enters, points a gun at her and demands a specific tiara. When she denies knowing anything about it, he abducts her. Later that evening she is dressed like a boy and dragged to the British Museum Reading Room, where Michael had been perusing the newspaper. Realizing something is wrong, Michael follows them and finds her literally tied to a table leg. He liberates her, helps her escape and takes her to his townhouse. The next day he proposes.
It appears that a power-hungry countess and her team of criminals will do whatever it takes to possess the tiara, and things get ugly. This story is a wild ride filled with heartbreaking revelations, kidnappings, near death experiences and some rather steamy encounters. One minute Charity is quaking in her boots, and the next minute she is tackling thugs and throwing punches. Michael does his best to keep her safe, and somewhere along the line their marriage of convenience grows into something much more profound. I love this series! The members of the Rogue’s Arcade Club truly are brothers-in-arms and will do whatever is necessary to help each other, no questions asked. They all are damaged in some way, but there is no judgment, only support….and the women in their lives are fierce, loyal and understanding. It is all rather inspiring and the stories are quite exciting!.
