Yukiko Inoue situates Online Education for Lifelong Learning in the context of the research of Richardson and Swan (2003), who noted the effects of distance learning on increasing opportunities for learners as well as increasing challenges to educators in online learning environments, given the lack of face-to-face interactions so crucial to effective learning.
