First historical novel
Wow wow . I accidentally read this book & I've never read anything but historical novel after this great book . It has great plots , great characters & a great ending . I have read this book 4 times , 2010 being the first time & I just finished reading it again in 2015 . That's should give you an insight on how good this author is .
Don’t bother giving this woman your money
I won’t talk about how the female lead is raped. Everyone who’s read the book hates that part and couldn’t get past it. But Lisa Kleypas described slaves in New Orleans as “immigrants” and then- because this is supposed to be a romance novel without any real world angst- went on to describe the slave and slave owner relationship as complicated, “some even liked their owners”. I’ve never had such a instant reaction to a book, and to an author. If she wanted to write a story about a pirate rescuing the damsel in distress she certainly could have done that without making me with to apologize to my ancestors for reading this slop. If this is your first novel from her stop while
you’re ahead, you’re going to get 1. rape ,2. pro-slavery adjacent language, 3. misogyny.
Terrible
The leading lady is raped by the leading male. One of the most debilitating things for rape and assault victims is the guilt for when they felt any sort of arousal in an unwanted sexual situation.
