After nearly eighteen months at Basgiath War College, Violet Sorrengail knows there’s no more time for lessons. No more time for uncertainty.
Because the battle has truly begun, and with enemies closing in from outside their walls and within their ranks, it’s impossible to know who to trust.
Now Violet must journey beyond the failing Aretian wards to seek allies from unfamiliar lands to stand with Navarre. The trip will test every bit of her wit, luck, and strength, but she will do anything to save what she loves—her dragons, her family, her home, and him.
Even if it means keeping a secret so big, it could destroy everything.
They need an army. They need power. They need magic. And they need the one thing only Violet can find—the truth.
But a storm is coming...and not everyone can survive its wrath.
The Empyrean series is best enjoyed in order.

APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Swoop and dive into the heart of Violet Sorrengail’s transition from student to formidable warrior in the thrilling third installment in Rebecca Yarros’ Empyrean fantasy series. After a year and a half of lessons at Basgiath War College, anything Violet doesn’t know now, she’ll have to learn on her adventures outside the struggling kingdom of Navarre. Enemies are ready to attack, and allies are needed if there’s any chance of survival. Yarros’ expansive world-building feels almost limitless. Flying—literally—outside the wards means unexplored landscapes and cultures to experience and discover. Despite the unrelenting violence, truly shocking betrayals, and constant high-octane drama, we loved that Violet’s endlessly important relationships with her dragons, her friends and family, her home, and of course, her—let’s just call it complicated—history with her fighter Xaden Riorson (who’s undergoing some changes of his own) still drive every decision she makes. This sweeping and suspenseful epic series soars to new heights and plunges to unexpected emotional depths.

That ending?!?!
I felt like the first 85% of the book was slow. It had important info but nothing that really had me on the edge of my seat like the first two books. Liked it, but was hoping for a little more umph. Then the last few chapter happen and it was so good. THEN THE LAST TWO TO THREE PAGES AND IT HAD ME STUMPED.
I’m feeling annoyed, excited, anxious by this cliffhanger. I’m ready for the next book!
Phenomenal.
I wish I could have the experience of reading it for the first time all over again.
Long Read For Bad Ending
Bad ending leaving the reader confused and wondering why all the building up of this story to just drop it and not really go anywhere.
