An action-packed read
First off, I like the simplicity of the e-book cover. It says it all. The hollow elephant tusk reminds off a bullet hole, which is the backdrop to this action/romance - the elephant poaching trade in Southern Africa and a bad vs good guys' battle of wits and bullets. This book is fast-paced. From the get-go one is hooked. Compared to another well-known novel I started recently ('The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' - not in the same genre, but a modern-day success) 'Operation Zero' moves like an action movie. Luckily, for me, there is some romance in it too. Guy meets girl, but he is first drugged and hunted by the FBI plus high-powered mercenaries before they meet again. This is a novel for male and female, young or old, alike. Personally, I like character development in a novel. Not disappointed here, in fact the hero is quite sentient. Which makes the story true to life. Lastly, it is great to read a story based in the USA as well as in Southern Africa other than a Wilbur Smith offering. In fact, this writer compares very well with Mr. Smith, being from South Africa too. This is David Strauss's first novel, way to go! He has got the goods and also a great name for a writer! Keep a look out for this new author, hopefully there are many more to come.
