Love for Orlando
I am ordering this book in hardcopy for my daughter who is a feminist. There is a lot of feminist literature out there, but this appeals to the literary senses in a way that the polemicists do not. Wolfe strains to see both sides of the coin; not man versus woman but the inner conflict of being both man/woman.
How many selves do you have? Wolfe has many. She attempts to incorporate them all, but it cannot be done. It ends only in frustration. The final Chapter diverges from the story line and goes into a rather pitiful excursion into self loathing and frustration. It could easily have been omitted from the book. But it bates the soul of the author; we see her living pain.
