Detective Blue Pengram has never had a case like this one.

A vicious killer is on the loose in the streets of Darby, California, drugging his victims and running them through elaborate mazes before striking them down. Although he builds the mazes himself, he is exceedingly careful to leave no personal trace at the crime scenes.

From his intimate knowledge of the city, it's a safe bet that he's a local. But as the bodies pile up without any evidence, Blue feels like she's chasing a ghost. His mistakes are few and far between, yet they are all she has to lead her to this elusive, audacious murderer.
