Promising Beginning
There are many threads in this story and the series promises to be entertaining. Kim is an aspiring, idealistic young professor battling the bureaucracy of the corporate indenture system. Halla is a misfit, even within the Outcastes of the hierarchical Tolari society, and is suffering from a deep and lengthy despondency over her lost love. But the Kekrax, a mysterious, mud-loving, twin-tailed alien species roughly resembling newts, steals the show in the early chapters in my opinion. The artful rendition of the exquisitely polite Kekrax conversational style is delightful! If only humans could learn to be a little more like the Kekrax.
