The year is 2400. Three centuries after the breakthroughs of the 2080s, a single human civilization spans four worlds - bound by the same physics, governed by one central government, and held together by the conviction that what we built must never be broken.

The Whiskey is the furthest expression of that civilization: a small ship on a long reach set out to listen at the quietest edge of deep space. Her captain is young. Her mission is exploration pure and simple. But neither of those things will last.

What the Whiskey finds - and what is happening at home while she is gone - will raise the doubt whether humanity ever truly settled the questions it thought it had answered.
