Love it! Williams's prose delights. A big love story on the surface. Underneath, interweaving themes of social change, courtship, and moral responsibility. Fabulous!

No one is that romantic! You might call this one a “bodice ripper”. This book, I assume, was written early in her career and she hadn’t hit her stride in her endeavor to become the novelist whose books I so enjoy.

It started promisingly but soon descended into a mess of a plot and repetitive romantic drivel. I rarely struggle to finish a book I started but this was arduous in the extreme.
