Forbidden fruit never tasted this sweet…

No matter how bad he aches for one taste.
Her sweet overtures break down the ex-soldier’s defenses, but there’s more at stake than her body. Every touch, every kiss, every night. The closer she gets, the more exposed his darkest secret.
She’s one step away from finding out what happened the night she lost her family. One step away from leaving him forever.
“Overture is a beautiful composition of forbidden love and undeniable desire. Skye has crafted a gripping, sensual, and intense story that left me breathless. Get ready to be hooked!” – USA Today bestselling author Nikki Sloane
Warren (Falling for the Beast) combines hot love scenes and suspense of questionable plausibility in this erotic romantic thriller, the first of a planned trilogy. Violin prodigy Samantha Brooks was placed into the custody of former soldier Liam North at the age of 12, after her ambassador-turned-spy father's sudden death, which orphaned her. Liam is 16 years Samantha's senior and the owner of a successful security business in Texas's Hill Country. By the time Samantha is about to turn 18, Liam is also desperately fighting his attraction to her, seeing her as forbidden fruit. Samantha reciprocates his feelings, but is afraid to show it until he walks in on her pleasuring herself. Warren ratchets up the heat and sexual tension as she weaves in hints of danger for Samantha, including a nefarious driver who tries to force her off the road and ends up dead. Both the suspense plot and the several subplots (including a pervy high school coach threatening a minor character, the slow revelation of how Samantha became placed in Liam's home, and the details of Liam's abusive childhood) are uneven in places. However, Warren's tortured, honorable hero will break even the hardest of hearts. The story ends on a cliffhanger of dubious believability, but Warren's sympathetic characters and sizzling love scenes will likely inspire dedicated erotic romance fans to tune in for the next installment. Slow beginning that got better with time. Would like more adventures with alpha ex military security specialists.
Good, Mellow Read
Let me start by saying: If you came here straight from “Wanderlust”, this isn’t the passionate, dangerous Hunter you’re looking for. (He will always be my measure for rugged, dangerous, fictional men.)
However, if you liked Kip from “Love The Way You Lie”, then Liam North is your guy. Liam is strong, brooding & elusive in the same way.
This wasn’t just a story about two people exploring a taboo relationship with sex in every other chapter. Nothing was hotter than the fact that they couldn’t do the deed. (Can we get an AMEN for when he got rough with the reporter because he’s a great man beast with desires too volatile for the person he really wants to bang???)
My only problem with the story is that sometimes it felt slow because of too much internal dialoguing. Samantha & Liam were always fighting themselves about the same thing, just said in different ways with different words. It got a little repetitive.
Otherwise, the book came together really well at the end, & I can’t wait to read “Concerto”.
Could not relate to this May December
