Founded in 1865, the Owyhee Avalanche served as Idaho's earliest frontier newspaper — covering the silver mining boom of the Owyhee Mountains, the Wild West era of Ruby City and Silver City, Native American conflicts on the Idaho frontier, the Chinese immigrant mining communities, and the raw, untamed spirit of the American Far West at its most adventurous and dangerous.
