Pacemakers Made Easy

Carl Robinson has managed to write a book about pacemakers that both medical personnel (I am an R.N., and I have a pacemaker) and laypeople can learn from. He uses great analogies (i.e. Comparing Conduction system breakdown to the wire of your phone charger becoming damaged. "The electricity can no longer travel through the lead and charge your mobile phone. Damage to electricity can stop the overall unit working, and your phone is no different. You can take the analogy of a frayed wire one step further. Often a frayed wire will become temperamental, charging your phone one minute but not the next."). He also uses simple pictures, and to breakup the technical concepts, you'll find bits of humor sprinkled throughout.
The book gradually builds from the most basic anatomical information, to the most complex technical aspects of pacemakers. He covers the various types of pacemakers ( ICD, biventricular, single chamber, etc.), as well as the surgical insertion process. Some of the more difficult concepts, such as polarity and histograms, are broken down with excellent visual aids.
I was truly impressed with how well written this book was. He has taken the complexities of a pacemaker, and made them understandable without dumbing them down. If you or a loved one has a pacemaker, or someone you know is getting one, I highly recommend this book!
