Megan sat in silence for a second, digesting his words. "Punished?" she asked, mimicking the tone he had used when he said it.
"If you choose, your punishment begins and ends today. On Monday, you enter this office as the Regional Sales Representative for my company."
Holy shit. Had he really just said that? That position paid at least double what she was making right now. Maybe even triple with bonuses.
"You know what my answer is," she said.
"I'm afraid I can't operate on assumptions. Tell me what you want."
"I want the promotion. I want to be punished." There was no debate about this. It was the only way, no matter what he wanted.
"Are you certain?" His eyes were like two green flames, so bright and powerful that she felt like she needed a welding mask to keep looking at him.
Megan gulped down the lump in her throat and took a deep breath. "Yes, I am certain."
Doug hopped out of his chair and walked toward the door. He locked it--both locks, deadbolt and knob--and proceeded to close the blinds. He reached under his desk and pulled out a briefcase, setting it on the desk. His fingers quickly entered the combination and it popped open facing him so she couldn't see the contents.
