Well written and researched
A trip to Panama prompted me to purchase and read Matthew Parker's, 'Panama Fever'. Parker's history of the canal covers over 400 years, but he takes his reader on a fascinating and thrilling political, social, and technical journey, not to mention a few memorable tangents, of what it took to locate and build the canal. Peopled with colorful, tragic and heroic characters, I would think 'Panama Fever' would be a good read even if you were never planning on visiting Panama and its canal.
