Customer Reviews
Suspenseful, witty, well plotted--a great read for young (and not-so-young) adults!
This story of political intrigue and family drama, set in a range of exotic locales, is worthy of a $25 hardback format. The main characters are bright, funny, and impossible not to care about; their brother-sister banter advances a plot that is intricate yet not hard to follow, plausible but never quite predictable. This is the sort of book that wants to be read at one sitting, but it's long enough to afford several long sessions in your favorite chair, during which you escape your own cares for international intrigues, the beauty of rural Italy, a fraught episode in Venice, and a cinematic final scene in ...wait: I don't want to give anything away. I also loved the deeper themes of family and trust that Kelley artfully weaves into this tale. This is an adventure with a touch of romance, textured with vividly drawn villains, local color, European culture, and culinary tidbits. It may be G-rated, but it's fairly sophisticated, with a prose style suitable for ages 12 on up.
