Most physical phenomena, whether in the domain of fluid dynamics, electricity, magnetism, mechanics, optics, or heat flow, can be described in general by partial differential equations. great PDE overview iBook for iPhone
Suggested as a light to carry, containing a very understandable overview of PDE including (all) advanced methods covered in full books, formatted great for iPhone or iMac reading. Contains worked out examples and problems. Farlow's philosophy is to create basic understand of "what is going on" as most important; and does it well enough all methods can be achieved. Suggested reading shows where to find further study of each method. I doubt one could find a better introduction to PDE.
I was cautioned away from K*ndle ebook format. I declined to give K*ndle my admin password (all i need is a spy app on my mac that won't display books after upgrade and cause freezes after upgrades?)
I find the iBook format for this books is very crisp visually on a small iPhone, can also read between devices seemlessly and immediately. It's indexed and searchable, can add notes (notes are auto indexed), cut&paste, highlight.
