Max isn’t happy when his Superintendent volunteers him for a job that will take him State-side. He hates flying, and it means leaving the demons of London unsupervised.
Max has been chosen to select and train new recruits for the CIA’s demon division – and it’s not easy after what happened to Max’s colleague Walter J. Caspar, who is currently residing in a secure psychiatric facility. To add to Max’s troubles, someone – or something – doesn’t want him in Virginia, not least a tribe of Algonquian demons.
What message is hidden in Walter J’s garbled words? Can Max trust any of the CIA’s recruits, and why is the deputy director giving him funny looks? When the Powers That Be won’t return his calls, Max knows that he’s really in trouble. His only help comes in the form of a deadly Level Two Chava demon, Sophie Judas, and she’s not her usual vile self.
What secrets are hidden in the corridors of power? Who is trying to stop Max from finding out? Is there anyone who doesn’t want him dead?
