This is the next step in the Paleo diet.

This book is the progression of the Paleo diet to one which is more balanced. Going beyond the rudimentary "caveman" philosophy found in most Paleo diet books, this book presents a more elegant diet that is entirely validated by the authors through copious footnotes and references to scientific publications. It does not just blindly attempt to mimic the ancient diet of man but explains why grains and other modern foods are harmful and why cheese and rice are beneficial in moderation. Consider it the advanced Paleo diet.

Best book on diet so far - no joke

My friends and I follow a lot of material about diet and health, and it's clear this is the most concise, exhaustively researched book on nutrition you can buy. While it's reasonably compact, the authors do give you a pretty good idea what the evidence is, and there's plenty of end notes so you can decide for yourself.

The Jaminets are two scientists who got various maladies and decided to research everything they could on diet with voracious and open minds. They've done the research so you don't have to, and they don't have any sacred cows to protect.

And there's plenty of good news about foods that aren't strictly paleo that are good to eat, like grass-fed butter and white rice. It makes the diet VERY do-able, even eating out, (meat, veggies, & rice, simple). You can eat like a king on this diet. Let the unenlightened eat wheat and soy, this is the ticket to avoiding "genetic" disease.
